Marvel’s studio President Kevin Feige is teasing a total shift in the MCU after Avengers 4, according to Hollywood Reporter.
All-New Marvel, All New Avengers?
Infinity Wars, the last movie in Phase 3, doesn’t hit theatres until 2018. That’s a whole decade, and 22 movies, after Iron Man kicked off Marvel’s unprecedented cinematic universe. At that point, Feige suggests, it will be time for a shake-up. “We have an idea [of what the MCU looks like post-Infinity War], and it’s gonna be very, very different.”
On the page and small screen, Marvel is raising eyebrows with a weird dedication to HYDRA. The “Secret Empire” storyline ruffles feathers all over the place. Readers are upset with Hydra-Cap, and retailers refuse to follow Marvel’s HYDRA-themed dress code. There is even talk of a Secret Empire boycott.

But there isn’t enough evidence one way or the other to suggest that HYDRA will take over the MCU, as well. In fact, considering the plot of Winter Soldier is pretty much the opposite of all things HYDRA, there’s a decent chunk of evidence that no one’s going to be hailing anything on the big screen anytime soon.
Instead, a popular theory for “not-phase-4” is a New start for the Avengers. This idea seems far more likely, as Feige claims even the title for Avengers 4 is a spoiler. It’s entirely possible for New Avengers, Phase 1; especially since the studio has confirmed Spider-Man’s sequel. If the “new direction” is one where the movies and shows actually interact with one another, then we may even see the Defenders on the Avengers team. The “New Avengers” would allow for new MCU characters, as well. Toss in some contract knowledge (namely the fact that Chris Evans isn’t long for the MCU, but Sebastian Stan will probably die there), and you’ve got a decent theory for Avengers 4,5, and 6.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is based on characters from Marvel comics. Avengers 3: Infinity War is currently expected to release on May 4th, 2018. Avengers 4 does not currently have a release date.
