Convention season has arrived and the region’s first big one of the year is right around the corner, in Megacon Orlando, the Southeast’s largest pop culture event!
Fans of comics, science fiction, anime, gaming and cosplay will all descend upon the town that Mickey built, a collection of over 100,000 fans, across four days of fun. With over 400,000 square feet of space, attendees will have the opportunity to get autographs and photos, find numerous pop culture treasures and attend celebrity panels, including events exclusive to Megacon, like ‘Sketch Duels’, in which comic creators battle via sketches and ‘How to’ workshops, in building droids and learning to draw and paint.
This year’s convention will feature a laundry list of exciting celebrity guests, all with a common theme, cast reunions. Convening in Orlando will be the cast of Back to the Future with stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Tom Wilson and James Tolkan, while three members of The Goonies will also be attending in Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Ke Huy Quan. Lastly, two prominent members of The Lost Boys, Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric, will be there. Other notable stars coming include Zachary Levi, from the surprise hit Shazam!, and David Harbour, of Stranger Things fame and, most recently, the rebooted Hellboy. A complete list of celebrity guests can be found HERE.
There will be plenty of prominent comic book creators at the con this year. Some featured writers and artists include Greg Capullo, Ryan Stegman, Charles Soule, John Tyler Christopher, Jae Lee and Donny Cates, among others. Click HERE for a full list.
Cosplay completely took over last year’s Megacon. We told you about it HERE. This year is returning favorites like Vamp, Alyson Tabbitha, Danica Rockwood, Raychul Moore and Danielle DeNicola, as well as bringing in a bevy of new personalities, like Violet Love, Haus Play and Colossal Smidgen. Others attending can be seen HERE.
Megacon Orlando kicks off at 4pm (ET) on Thursday, May 16, and runs through Sunday, May 19, at 5pm, in the North/South concourses at the Orange County Convention Center. Visit megaconorlando.com for all the information you’ll need and HERE for tickets.
We’ll see you all there!
