Meet The Podcasts! Amateur Podcast Championships 2016

Lost Art of Podcasting

Adam Cox

I’ve been much good at anything. I can’t write, can’t draw and i’m not good at sports. But I seem to be doing good at podcasting. In the past 8 months, I have achieved more than I ever thought I would, and I would love the world to know our name.

Louder Than Ever Podcast

Mary Determan

Hailey and Mary are two Gemini Ravenclaws who love laughing and have literally nothing else in common. We spend our Saturday nights chatting about our chosen topics, current events, and other hilarity that comes out of our mouths and turn that into Louder Than Ever. We love recording our podcast and have mainly only convinced our friends and family to listen – we are waaaay too lazy for marketing, so this would be a great opportunity to get our podcast out in the world. Judge us all you like, as long as you are listening!

Make it a Double!

Mike Stojic

“Make it a Double! the podcast about booze, spirits, history, mixology and the people and stories that make them great” seeks to entertain and educate on all aspects concerning the drinks we love to indulge in. There are many good podcasts that speak to the topic of beer or mixology-this show is different. It draws you in to the culture of spirits and gives you a very candid introduction to some of the most incredibly passionate people within their trade. It’s an inside, behind the scenes, look you won’t find anywhere else. I place a lot of careful thought into choosing the right theme and guests for each episode. As a result, each episode is very unique. There is a full, a well-rounded dynamic experience listeners get from the show. Dedication to providing value is what drives me. “Make it a Double!” is not confined to one podcasting genre; rather, it merges many in order to stay fresh and relevant. The “Make it a Double!” podcast is a cocktail: one part travel, one part science mixed with history. Sometimes shaken. Sometimes stirred. Always overflowing with great stories and best enjoyed with your favorite libation. So, what’ll it be?

Me Myself and I Radio

Anthony Hayes

Listen to “Marie Lanza Author of Fractured: The Other Side” on Spreaker.

When I started podcasting 3 years ago I had no direction, no message and no audience. What I did know was that I was meant to podcast so I pressed on. The evolution of my show and myself as a person is beyond comprehension. Since podcasting has become such a big part of my life, I created a private facebook community for podcasters called The Podcast Discovery Center (1224 members). I should win because podcasting is one thing in my life I haven’t given up on.

Midnight Film Review

In the words of the immortal Brad Pitt character Mills “Delusions of grandeur”! We’ve been at this for over a year and love the medium. In the movie podcast genre we need all the help we can get!

More Gooder Than

Chris Braaten

The MGT Hosts feel like they were born to share their madness with the masses. Winning this competition will allow Chris, Cory and Donnie to reach a larger audience and spread the good word of More Gooder Than. In all honesty, the only thing they love doing more than recording, is interacting with their fans and creating great relationships. If they win, then they get to do that on a bigger platform.

New York Launch Pod

Hal Coopersmith

The New York Launch Pod is a monthly podcast that highlights new start-ups, businesses, and openings in the New York City area. The podcast is interview format where the founders “Step on to the Launch Pod” to discuss exciting New York projects, whether they be emerging companies, non-profits or books and art. We aren’t shy to ask tough questions either.

The goal is to be informative to our audience and ask questions they want to know. If we were to describe the show in one phrase it would be “NPR meets Shark Tank”. I submit Episode 12 of our podcast released on December 1, 2015. It is a twenty-seven-minute interview with Kenneth Shinozuka the 17-year-old founder of SafeWander. In the episode, Kenneth discusses how he invented a device for caregivers to monitor dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, winning a prize at the Google Science Fair and trip to the White House (all while being in high school). Kenneth has subsequently been named to Crains’ 20 under 20 and 2015 WebMD Health Hero where Seth Rogen presented him with the award.

Important to our mission at the New York Launch Pod is to interview a diverse group of entrepreneurs from diverse fields. As a native New Yorker, I know that doing so is important to illustrating the fabric and culture of our wonderful city. Our guests vary from Baz Bagel, a modern take on a traditional Jewish deli and bagel store in NoLIta, to Orchard Platform, a Financial Technology start-up uniquely positioned to connected online lenders and institutional investors that raised a $30 Million Series A investment.

I am proud to let you know that through 26 episodes half have featured female entrepreneurs. Additionally, we have featured businesses throughout the city, including those based in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. As we have grown, we have also been able fulfill our mission and to include more guests of color. This commitment to diversity will continue to be fulfilled in 2017 as interviews have already been scheduled with some wonderful entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds.

After our guests appear on the podcast, we track their progress and publicity in our monthly email newsletter, which also announces the release of new episodes. So far, the publicity for our guests has been fantastic and has helped us establish a strong brand.

There are, of course, other episodes and odds are that one will catch a field that intrigues you. I also invite you to take a look at our Instagram page (@NYLaunchPod) where we loosen our tie a little bit. On the page, our guests pose for their “mugshots” or #mugshots where we give them a mug after our interview, as well as a more lighthearted extension of the brand behind podcast.

Podcast AF

John Andersen

Podcast AF is the answer to the age-old question: how many sports and pop culture nerds does it take to predict Ryan Tannehill’s breakout season and argue about whether Hot Fuss or Sam’s Town is The Killers’ best album? The answer is more complicated than yes or no. There are three kinds of folks in this world: those who can count and those who can’t, and folks if I wanted to Count then I would’ve cut off Hayden Christiansen’s hand BEFORE he made that garbage film “Vanishing On 7th Street.” The truth is that stats are for nerds and the answer is somewhere between 2-4 (but not 3). I’ve yet to hear of another podcast that that can be said about. Podcast AF should win because some while some folks call us laid back and not serious, some other folks call us Cerberus because the White JA, Fitz Hattrick and Nudes McConaughey are like a three-headed dog whenever the topics of The Emu War or season two of “The Wire” come up.
